show us the future of motorcycling
The Rizoma Design Challenge is a platform to examine new concepts and creative visions in two contest categories—motorcycle design and accessory product design.
In addition to using Rizoma design language and unique aesthetics as inspiration, participants are encouraged to incorporate state-of-the-art technologies and materials in their designs. Special consideration is also given to submissions that implement emerging technologies in sustainable systems, additive manufacturing, and transportation infrastructure.
Semi-final selections will be based on the technical, innovative, and artistic merits of each submission by a panel of industry leaders and designers. Final winners will be decided by a weighted 50/50 vote between this panel of judges and votes collected from the general public.
Winners of both motorcycle and product classes receive up to $5,000 in product prizes, with an offer of an internship in Italy at the Rizoma global headquarters for the top student submission.
*This contest is only valid for those based in the United States or can provide a physical address in the lower 48 states.
Competition Categories & Guidelines
Choose one product from the Rizoma Universal MIRRORS, GRIPS, or FLUID TANKS Parts Catalog to use as a creative basis for the motorcycle of the future. The design should incorporate material and design elements from the chosen ‘inspiration’ piece you choose. While not required to qualify, special consideration will be given for those that incorporate the inspiration component in the final design. Submissions will only be accepted as finalized digital renderings in JPEG format. Multiple submissions are permitted.
Aftermarket Product Design
Create a digital rendering of the aftermarket motorcycle product or accessory of the future. Designs may be new inventions, or a fresh take on standard parts (handgrips, footpegs, mirrors, lights, switchgear, etc), but must adhere to general laws of physics and must incorporate existing Rizoma branding. Submissions will be accepted as CAD renderings, digital drawings (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) and/or photographs of physical models in jpeg format. Multiple submissions are permitted.
If you are a student enrolled in a full- or part-time accredited course of study, you may flag your submission as a “student” entry. Student entries will still be eligible to win either of the above categories, or instead choose the option of a six month design internship at the Rizoma headquarters outside of Milan, Italy.
At close of contest submission period on June 30th 2019, semi-final entries will be solely selected by a panel of industry experts. Public voting period begins July 8th 2019 and concludes on July 22nd 2019 at 11:59 PST, whereupon conclusion public votes will be tallied. Final judging will be weighted 50/50 between a panel of industry experts, and votes collected from the general public. Winners will be announced on August 1st 2019.
